Two Eyes, One Discipline” Four day Street Photography Masterclass with Vineet Vohra and Alan Schaller in Varanasi.

This is a four-day intensive workshop tailor-made for those who wish to train their eye and discover the art of story telling in two distinctive styles. This workshop will help focus your eye on the moments that really matter, and help you solve the puzzle of composing compelling images in a split second. Most importantly Alan and Vineet will help you develop your own vision.

Each day includes shooting in the streets and theoretical sessions covering all you need to know about street photography including the photographers personal perspectives on how they work, the tips to improve spotting photographs and technique, different aspects in composition and common mistakes made while composing.  Other topics covered: 

1) Understanding layering in photography, 

2) Fine tuning your vision.

3) A portfolio review.

4) Advice on how to develop your own style.

5) How to hip shoot effectively. 

6) Ways to see and treat light, plus the screening of a video documentary of how images are made as they are being shot.

7) Sequencing your shots 

Alan & Vineet have two distinct and but different styles, both in terms of how the observe the street, and the aesthetics they choose. You will see how two photographers approach the same scene differently, along with the breakdown and explanation of how they achieve the results they do. 

Alan & Vineet will shoot along with the group giving you a chance to turn your freshly acquired theoretical knowledge into practice, with themes in mind to work with through out the walks. They will observe you at work and give feedback and suggestions when required.

Students will not only hunt for decisive moments but also get close to people and photograph them. They will help the participants share and select their top images for review and critiques and talk about the art of story telling. How to write stories and photo essays, followed by a lecture on the importance of shooting personal projects and how it benefits in the long run.

Day 1 

1:00pm meet & greet, followed by a portfolio review, kindly get 6 of your favourite images.

3:00 pm 

we step out to shoot towards Assi ghat, every participant gets to shoot with the mentors and understand the purpose of shooting on the streets.

6:00pm 

we meet at a designated location at Assi ghat and disperse from there.

Day 2

The boot camp starts 🙂

6:30am9:30am

Leave for Dashaswamedh ghat & start shooting with a theme for a photo essay in mind, participants will also enjoy freedom if they wish to concentrate on single images.

10:00am-11:30 am

Short break to download images and have breakfast.

Leave for Tulsi ghat

3:30-6:00pm

Shoot with the mentors

Discuss the problems while shooting on the street.

5:30am – 9:30 am

shooting the early morning blue hour, every participant will be shooting on their own, but the mentors will always be around in case if they need assistance.
